Gousto raises £9m to defeat Tesco and HelloFresh as CEO reveals sixfold growth

Gousto is the fresh food delivery service that secured a place in the Everline Future 50 2014, a milestone that has been followed by a sixfold growth since then.

CEO and co-founder Timo Schmidt made the revelation to Real Business in an interview to discuss the company’s £9m investment from a new VC division of the Business Growth Fund. Indeed, in terms of staff, there are now 140 people working for the business up from just 30.

Schmidt said: “Over the course of the last year, we’ve introduced more delivery dates and shortened the time between order and delivery by half. We’ve also introduced dessert and wine options, as well as kitchen equipment, all to enhance the meal experience.”

The firm has also launched a dedicated mobile app, TV adverts and hired dedicated chefs to develop different recipes – all of which office staff are able to sample.

Read the full interview on the Real Business website to find out how the new round of investment will be spent and how Gousto will challenge $2.9bn rival HelloFresh, which Schmidt spoke very frankly about, and supermarket giant Tesco.
